Resurrection Rolls

Every Thursday night is family night which means no tv and we decide as a family what we want to do together. Tonight I thought it would be fun to make Resurrection Rolls and review the story of Jesus' resurrection with the girls and to remind them why we celebrate Easter. These are so easy to make and are delicious! We ate them all and could have eaten more! I got this recipe from shecooks.org

Ingredients:

1 tube Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (Big and Flakyy)
1/4 cup butter, melted

8 large marshmallows

3 tablespoons sugar mixed with 3 teaspoons of cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.

Separate crescent rolls (Much easier if you use big an flaky but if you can't find and use the regular size, trim off about a quarter of the marshmallow.)

Give each child a triangle of crescent roll. The pastry represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in.

Give each child a marshmallow. This represents Jesus.

Have them dip the marshmallow into the melted butter and roll to coat evenly. This represents the oils of embalming.

Have them dip the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat. This represents the spices used to anoint His body.

Place the coated marshmallow at the straight end of the crescent roll. Bring the two corners up to the top of the marshmallow.

Roll up (away from you and toward the point) the crescent roll with the marshmallow and seal to make sure the marshmallow is not showing (or it will leak out when baking). This represents the wrapping of Jesus' body after death.

Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and place in oven for about 10 minutes. The oven represents the tomb.

Remove from oven and cool slightly. Break open or bite into the rolls and discover that Jesus is no longer there, HE IS RISEN! (The marshmallow melts and the crescent roll is puffed up, but empty.)

Fun with Anderson on the Trampoline!

Softball

Camryn, you started playing softball for the first time when you were almost 5-years-old. You played on an all girls 4 and 5 year old team: the Dirt Diamond's! Ya'lls first game was April 5, 2011 vs. the Dirt Devil's. Ya'll didn't win very many games but ya'll didn't care! You would always ask after each game if you won and I would say yes. You never knew the difference! All of your games were played at Bishop Park in Bryant.

Some of the girls at work have daughters on the team and they asked me if you could play for them. When I came home and told you your team name you said, "We just like the diamonds and not the dirt!" You ended up LOVING the dirt! You can't really tell from the picture but you would sit in the dirt and pour it over your legs..sometimes during the game!

The Dirt Diamonds include: Hayleigh Work, Camryn McGuire, Emily Sherman, Jaclyn Carter, Aubrey Carter, Brooklyn Lester, Keeli Key, Sydney Green, Raine Bengston, and Kayleigh Lambert! Daddy was the head coach and the assistant coaches were Chris Green, Mark Hawthorne and Dave Works.

My dad passed away on Wednesday, March 2 after a hard battle fighting pneumonia and ARDS. He was placed on a vent just 2 days after being admitted to the hospital and never was able to come off. We had to make the hard decision to unhook him from life support and were encouraged to do this by his doctors early Wednesday morning. It took us all day to say our goodbyes and for one reason or another our time that we set to unhook him kept geting pushed back. We finally agreed on a time but it was during evening visiting hours for the ICU he was in so his nurse encouraged us to wait until 10 pm when visiting hours ended so we would have more privacy and the unit would not have to be "shut down." It is policy for the ICU to have all visitors leave when a patient dies. Holli, Magan, Kelsey, Mom, Todd, Kristen, his pastor Doug Pruitt and I were all in his room and were praying around 9:45. His heart rate started dropping very rapidly and then his pulse ox as well despite the vent remaining maximized. At 10:05 he passed all on his own! The only thing that had been removed was the paralytic earlier in the evening so that when he was taken off the vent his lungs would be able to move as he started breathing on his own. It was such a precious moment for us to know that he took care of us and didn't require us to make the decision to end his life. God was so faithful and I couldn't imagine it any other way.
Saturday, April 9th he was honored at Bishop Park during the dedication ceremony of the new ball fields. All the Bryant spring baseball teams were being introduced and a special service was performed at the end of the dedication. Daddy worked for the city of Bryant as the superintendent for the Parks and Recreation Department for many years and loved his job and served the community very well. He has been greatly missed and the city honored him by naming the street off of Boone Road leading into The Center after him. During the ceremony all his kids threw out the first pitches on one of the new baseball fields which he worked hard to develop.

In a previous post I expressed concern that Laynie may not develop a love for reading. Well, she just started reading books to us and it is too funny! We have an Easter bucket in the living room filled with Easter books and Laynie likes to read them!
